With English as a worldwide language, the study emphasizes the necessity of English language education in Indonesia, especially in higher education. It addresses the use of technology in TEFL, the trend toward communicative language instruction, and the concentration on teaching English for specific reasons. Following a comprehensive examination and analysis, the study concluded that although online resources for language and culture learning are growing in popularity, educators especially those with greater experience continue to face challenges in successfully incorporating technology into their lessons. The survey looks at how students feel about TEFL programs, how they feel about using technology to learn languages, and how they feel about how it affects their ability to communicate across cultures. In order to enhance TEFL instruction and technology pedagogical topic understanding, the study also places a strong emphasis on teacher professional development. The report recommends that Indonesian colleges and institutions improve their TEFL programs in light of these facts. These include innovative instructional strategies, upgrades to facilities, and teacher preparation courses that use technology. In this work, an experimental design was used. The researchers conducted nearly non-equivalent group design experiments for this investigation. For the second half of the academic year 2022/2023, 42 students were a part of the research group. Basic random sampling techniques were used in this investigation on a sample of clusters. Both an oral student communication exam and a student interest questionnaire were used to collect the data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to examine the student oral communication data, and the Likert scale was used to assess the student interest data. The study's findings were as follows: (1) The GME course materials might improve AMI AIPI's oral communication in Makassar's third semester. It can be said that GME training resources are effective at improving oral communication in terms of accuracy, fluency, and comprehension and that students are very interested in learning from GME language course materials at maritime academies. Signing up GME for Maritime English learning has the potential to significantly boost students' oral communication performance by providing an engaging, realistic, and effective learning environment. It can enhance language skills, cultural awareness, and overall communication competence, preparing students for successful careers in the maritime industry. As the implications of this study, enrolling in General Maritime English emphasizes the value of contextualized language instruction by improving students' oral communication skills. GME may greatly improve students' capacity for professional and effective communication in the marine industry by concentrating on industry-specific needs. This will improve safety, compliance, and career opportunities. But for these programs to be successful, they must handle the issues of resource allocation, varied student needs, and efficient assessment.

2024-06-06T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 ETERNAL (English, Teaching, Learning, and Research Journal)https://journal3.uin-alauddin.ac.id/index.php/Eternal/article/view/47848Integrating Local Wisdom of Lombok Community into English Textbook2024-06-30T07:17:42+00:00Dewi Satria Elmiana[email protected]Ahmad Zamzam[email protected]Kurniawan Apgrianto[email protected]Aulia Dwi Amalina Wahab[email protected]Andra Ade Riyanto[email protected]
One way to promote local wisdom values is to integrate them into learning in schools, particularly in Lombok where there are some valuable local wisdom which could be integrated into English textbooks. This research aims to integrate Lombok's local wisdom values into English language teaching, particularly for junior high school level to strengthen students' character and identity to face future challenges. This research employed a Research and Development approach to produce local wisdom-based textbooks with a total population and sample of 72 students who are divided into 12 groups based on the units in each textbook which are developed. Meanwhile, the practicality of the teaching materials was assessed by 2 lecturers who taught the Textbook and Material Development course, while the object of this research was the English teaching materials for junior high school level that would be developed. So far, there has never been any action to develop materials by integrating local wisdom in the form of folk tales, especially on the island of Lombok, into reading material in textbooks. This research reveals that some important characteristics obtained from Lombok's local wisdom values that can be integrated into English language learning, they are religious, tolerant and egalitarian. Religious character becomes the foundation of other characters. These different characters can be integrated into the teaching and learning process. In the teaching process, teachers adjust teaching steps by instilling religiosity, tolerant and egalitarian values, while, materials are equipped with a teacher's book which provides direction to teachers, especially regarding the interpretation of local wisdom values so that they comply with competency standards and basic competencies in the curriculum which is currently being implemented in Indonesia.

Keywords: English textbooks, local wisdom, religion, tolerant, egalitarian.
2024-06-29T15:14:31+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 ETERNAL (English, Teaching, Learning, and Research Journal)https://journal3.uin-alauddin.ac.id/index.php/Eternal/article/view/28691FACEBOOK ENGAGEMENT AMONG PHILIPPINE JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS: STIMULATING CONNECTEDNESS IN THE NEW NORMAL2024-07-03T06:29:34+00:00Frederick Grengia[email protected]
ABSTRACT Given the prevalence of social media among young millennial learners, this study was conducted to see how teacher-student connectivity via Facebook influences student engagement in junior high school.Student engagement , which is critical to a student's academic achievement, is influenced by a variety of factors, including the typical teacher-student relationship. The two hundred fifty-three (253) students were surveyed using Student Engagement in Schools Questionnaire (SESQ) that examined the extent of their interest, involvement, and drive to succeed in the class, particularly in the class of their teachers who were their Facebook friends. Twenty-two (22) teachers were polled using a self-report questionnaire. Five of them were chosen at random for an interview on their Facebook interactions with students and their views on such connections. Correlational method was used. The findings imply that when teachers use Facebook to develop a social connection with junior high school students, even if the link is simple and routine, it has a significant impact on the students' affective, behavioral, cognitive, and academic involvement in the classroom.
2024-07-02T11:38:07+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 ETERNAL (English, Teaching, Learning, and Research Journal)
