Authored by the distinguished Shāfiʿī jurist and historian in the 8th/14th century, this treatise has transcended temporal boundaries, evolving into a cornerstone of Islamic legal education worldwide. As a concise yet comprehensive work, it swiftly garnered widespread recognition as a textbook, sparking a surge of commentaries by eminent scholars across various juristic schools. This investigation explores the key factors that contributed to its initial reception, establishment as a standard textbook, and profound impact on subsequent uṣūl al-fiqh scholarship. Drawing insights from biobibliographical sources, the research illuminates the enduring influence of this pivotal work. It underscores the dynamic interplay between base texts (matn) and their commentaries in shaping the ever-evolving landscape of uṣūl al-fiqh scholarship, challenging preconceptions about the originality of commentary literature. The findings encourage scholars further to investigate the intricate developments in uṣūl al-fiqh scholarship, fostering renewed interest in the interpretive legacies of this rich intellectual tradition
2024-11-21T16:40:36+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Mohamed Jabir Ali al-Hudawi
