Syekh Yusuf Al-Makassari: Inspirasi Dakwah Moderat dan Perlawanan Kolonialisme
Abstract
This article discusses the concepts and steps for studying historical figures. The terminology of historical figures has not been widely discussed and used in historical writing. Writing about a character is often found in writing biographies, autobiographies, memoirs, festivals. The life of a character is written in these four types of writing, therefore the author discusses the biography of a figure who is popular in South Sulawesi and even abroad, who is usually called Sheikh Yusuf Al-Makassari. We will examine this figure regarding the background of Sheikh Yusuf Al-Makassari's life, regarding his preaching methods and his resistance against colonialism. A biography is a life history of a figure who is considered important by society. Biography writing is generally to convey something special that a character has. The da'wah methods are certain methods used by a preacher to convey Islamic teachings, including aqidah, fiqh and monotheism and many other things related to this, where the target is aimed at the wider community. Meanwhile, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Makassari's resistance to Dutch colonialism was carried out in various ways, including encouraging the spirit of jihad among the people of Banten.
