Focus and Scope

ELSTIC-IJ dispenses access to scholarly communication for professionals, researchers, lecturers, teachers, students, and other curious minds. This platform opens access for those academicians to contribute their innovative works, their fruits of research, in a number of fields covering English language, theoretical English linguistics, applied English linguistics, English language teaching and learning, Curriculum and Instructional development in ELT,  English Phonetics and Phonology, English Morphology, English Syntax, English Semantics, English Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Anthropological linguistics, Discourse analysis, Language and Culture, etc.

Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process
ELSTIC-IJ maintains the standards of peer review while increasing the efficiency of the process.
All research articles published in ELSTIC-IJ undergo full peer review, key characteristics of which are listed below:
  • All research articles are reviewed by at least two suitably qualified experts.
  • All publication decisions are made by the journals’ Editors-in-Chief on the basis of the reviews provided
  • Members of the international Editorial Boards lend insight, advice, and guidance to the Editors-in-Chief generally and to assist decision making on specific submissions
  • Managing Editors and Editorial Assistants provide the administrative support that allows ELSTIC-IJ to maintain the integrity of peer review while delivering rapid turnaround and maximum efficiency to authors, reviewers, and editors alike.
  • ELSTIC-IJ additionally benefits through the manuscript referral process from the high-quality peer review conducted by established journals.
Peer review of referred papers:
Editors of ELSTIC-IJL will decide promptly whether to accept, reject, or request revisions of referred papers based on the reviews and editorial insight of the supporting journals. In addition, Editors will have the option of seeking additional reviews when needed. The authors will be advised when Editors decide further review is needed.

Peer review of novel submissions:
Articles submitted directly to ELSTIC-IJ will be fully peer-reviewed by at least two appropriately qualified experts in the field selected by the Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief or a designated member of the Editorial Board will then decide whether to accept, reject or request revisions based on the reviews and comments received.
Editors will decide whether each submission reports well-conducted research with conclusions supported by the data presented in the paper. Assessments of priority will not be a factor in decision-making, but all papers must make an incremental or novel addition to the literature.

All research articles published in ELSTIC-IJ JOURNAL are fully OPEN-ACCESS: immediately freely available to read, download, and share. Articles are published under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License which permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium provided the original work is properly cited.

Ethical guidelines for journal publication

The publication of an article in the peer-reviewed journals published by The Language Center, Indonesia University of Education is process of permanent knowledge improvement. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behaviour for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher and the society of society-owned or sponsored journals.

The Language Center, Indonesia University of Education takes their duties of guardianship over all stages of publishing extremely seriously and we recognise our ethical and other responsibilities.

We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. In addition, Editorial Board will assist in communications with other journals and/or publishers where this is useful to editors.

Duties of authors

Reporting standards

Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable. Review and professional publication articles should also be accurate and objective, and editorial 'opinion' works should be clearly identified as such.

Data access and retention

Authors may be asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

Originality and plagiarism

The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism takes many forms, from 'passing off' another's paper as the author's own paper, to copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another's paper (without attribution), to claiming results from research conducted by others. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication

An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. In general, an author should not submit for consideration in another journal a previously published paper.

Acknowledgement of sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work. Information obtained privately, as in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties, must not be used or reported without explicit, written permission from the source. Information obtained in the course of confidential services, such as refereeing manuscripts or grant applications, must not be used without the explicit written permission of the author of the work involved in these services.

Authorship of the paper

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

Hazards and human or animal subjects

If the work involves chemicals, procedures or equipment that have any unusual hazards inherent in their use, the author must clearly identify these in the manuscript. If the work involves the use of animal or human subjects, the author should ensure that the manuscript contains a statement that all procedures were performed in compliance with relevant laws and institutional guidelines and that the appropriate institutional committee(s) has approved them. Authors should include a statement in the manuscript that informed consent was obtained for experimentation with human subjects. The privacy rights of human subjects must always be observed.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest

All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed. Examples of potential conflicts of interest which should be disclosed include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding. Potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed at the earliest stage possible.

Fundamental errors in published works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper. If the editor or the publisher learns from a third party that a published work contains a significant error, it is the obligation of the author to promptly retract or correct the paper or provide evidence to the editor of the correctness of the original paper.

Duties of editors

Publication decisions

The editor of a peer-reviewed journal is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published, often working in conjunction with the relevant society (for society-owned or sponsored journals). The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editor may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editor may confer with other editors or reviewers (or society officers) in making this decision.

Fair play

An editor should evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Editors should recuse themselves (i.e. should ask a co-editor, associate editor or other member of the editorial board instead to review and consider) from considering manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or (possibly) institutions connected to the papers. Editors should require all contributors to disclose relevant competing interests and publish corrections if competing interest.

AUTHOR(S) GUIDELINES

  1. Articles submitted to the Journal should normally be between 5,000 to 7,000 words or between 14-17 pages with single space and should be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 300 words, containing the importance of the topic, the gap between theory and practice or between reality and expectation, or lacks of studies, objectives of the present study, method, findings, and conclusion.
  2. On the abstract, explicitly write in bold: Introduction, objective of the papers, method, findings, and conclusion. 
  3. Below the abstract, about three to five keywords should appear together with the main body of the article with the font size 11.
  4. The Journal operates a peer review process and promotes blind reviewing. To facilitate this process, author’s names (without academic titles), institutional affiliations, and the email address of the corresponding author should appear only on a detachable cover sheet.
  5. Contributor(s) should include a short CV describing his/her/their current position and activities in not more than 80 words.
  6. Articles should be written in English in single space, using Microsoft Word, font size 12, Times New Roman, top and left margin 2.54 cm, bottom and right margin 2.54 cm, printed in Letters.
  7. Insert a header on even page indicating name of the Journal, Volume, Number, month, and year, and page number of the publication. On odd page, insert the author(s) and a few words of the title of the articles.
  8. Footnotes should appear at the end of the text, not at the foot of the relevant page. Page number should be inserted at the bottom, placed on the right.
  9. Write the main body of the article in two columns, except for tables and figures. Use first line indent of 1 cm, but no indent for first paragraph right after the main title and first paragraph after subheadings.
  10. Block citation should be 1 cm indented with the font size 11.
  11. For research-based  articles, the outline used is: introduction (without heading or subheading),  method, findings and discussion, conclusion, and references.
  12. The title should be less than 12 words, capitalized, centered, with font zize 14.
  13. The introduction should consist of the background of the study, research contexts, literary review, and research objective. All introduction should be presented in the forms of paragraphs, not pointers, with the proportion of 15-20% of the whole article length.
  14. The method section consists of  description concerning the  research design, data sources, data collection, and data analysis with the proportion of  10-15% of the total article length, all presented in the form of paragraphs.
  15. The findings and discussion section consist of description of the results of the data analysis to answer the research question(s) and their meanings seen from current theories and references of the area addressed. The proportion of  this section is 40-60% of the total article length.
  16. The conclusion section consists of the summary, restatement of  the main findings.
  17. Use only horizontal lines when using tables. Put table number and the title of the table on top of it.
  18. Every source cited in the body of the article should appear in the reference, and all sources appearing in the reference should be cited in the body of the article.
  19. The sources cited should at least 80% come from those published in the last 10 years. The sources cited are primary sources in the forms of journal articles, books, and research reports, including theses and dissertations. Citations from journal should be at least 80% of the total references cited.
  20. Citation is done using bracket (last name and year of publication). When the sources are cited verbatim, page number is included (p. 78 or pp. 78-89).
  21. Proofs will be sent to the author for correction, and should be submitted to journal by the deadline given.
  22. Quotation and references follows APA style and the latter should be included at the end of the article in the following examples:

AUTHOR FEES

The fee for publication of an original paper in this journal is 3.500.000.00 (IDR) (for Indonesian author) & $ 100 (for Foreign author). If the paper is accepted for publication, you will be asked to fill out and send a Statement of originality along with your digital signature and you will be asked to pay the fee. This fee includes the proofreading cost/fee of the manuscript.
Accepted manuscripts WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED until payment has been received. 

PLAGIARISM POLICY

ELSTIC-IJ editorial board recognizes that plagiarism is not acceptable and therefore establishes the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) upon identification of plagiarism/similarities in articles submitted for publication in ELSTIC-IJ. ELSTIC-IJ will use Turnitin's originality checking software as the tool in detecting similarities of texts in article manuscripts and the final version articles ready for publication. A maximum of 25 % of similarities is allowed for the submitted papers. Should we find more than 20 % of the similarity index, the article will be returned to the author for correction and re-submission.

Definition:

Plagiarism involves the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."

Policy:

Papers must be original, unpublished, and not pending publication elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from another source needs to be clearly identified as different from the present original text by (1) indentation, (2) use of quotation marks, and (3) identification of the source.

Any text of an amount exceeding fair use standards (herein defined as more than two or three sentences or the equivalent thereof) or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if feasible, the original author(s) and also requires identification of the source; e.g., previous publication.

When plagiarism is identified, the Editor in Chief responsible for the review of this paper and will agree on measures according to the extent of plagiarism detected in the paper in agreement with the following guidelines:

Level of Plagiarism

Minor Plagiarism
A small sentence or short paragraph of another manuscript is plagiarized without any significant data or ideas taken from the other papers or publications.
Punishment: A warning is given to the authors and a request to change the manuscript and properly cite the original sources.
 
Intermediate Plagiarism
A significant data, paragraph, or sentence of an article is plagiarized without proper citation to the original source.
Punishment: The submitted article is automatically rejected.
 
Severe Plagiarism
A large portion of an article is plagiarized that involves many aspects such as reproducing original results (data, formulation, equation, law, statement, etc.), ideas, and methods presented in other publications.
Punishment: The paper is automatically rejected and the authors are forbidden to submit further articles to the journal.
