Author Guidelines

Papers are invited from anywhere in the world, and so authors are asked to ensure that sufficient context is provided for all readers to appreciate their contribution.

Types of papers

The types of papers that may be considered for inclusion is the original research paper.

How to submit your manuscript?

All manuscripts should be submitted online at http://journal.uin-alauddin.ac.id/index.php/biotek/index

The general writing format

1. The manuscript is the authentic research result that has not been published yet in other publication media.
2. Manuscript accepted is written in standard Indonesian Language or English Language
3. The length of the manuscript is approximately 3000-4000 words, written in Quattrocento Sans 12pt, A4 paper format, margins: top 3 cm; left 3 cm; right 3 cm; bottom 3 cm, justified, 1,5 line spacing.
4. Manuscript comprises five main headings: Pendahuluan (Introduction); Metode (Method); Hasil dan Pembahasan (Findings and Discussion); Kesimpulan (Conclusions); Ucapan Terima Kasih (Acknowledgement), Daftar Pustaka (References).
5. The title of the manuscript must be as brief as possible and must represent the content of the manuscript.
6. Authors’ names are written below the tittle, followed by authors’ affiliation (name of the affiliation, address, and country) and e-mail address.
7. The abstract is written in two languages: Indonesian and English or only in English if the full text is written in English, as a representation of the manuscript. The Abstract should be 150 to 200 words in length for each language format, written in Quattrocento Sans 10pt, single-spaced, written narratively comprising aims/objectives, method, and findings of the research/article, in one paragraph.
8. Keywords: words or phrases which are important, specific, or representative to the article.
9. APA 6th edition style is used as a reference in citation, references, and writing format. In addition, it is fully suggested for author(s) to use reference manager tools such as Mendeley or Zotero at styling the bibliography.
10. The article must have a minimum of 25 references, with 80% of them in the form of journals published within the last 10 years.
11. The manuscript should be written in the following JOURNAL TEMPLATE.
12. The manuscript must be in Microsoft Word (.doc/ .docx or .rtf) , and sent to the journal system via online submission by creating account in this Open Journal System (OJS) [click REGISTER if you have not had any account yet; or click LOGIN if you have already had an account].
13. All Author(s)' names and identity(es) must be completely embedded in the form filled in by the corresponding author: email; affiliation; and each author's short biography (in the column of 'Bio Statement'). [if the manuscript is written by two or more authors, please click 'Add Author' in the 3rd step of 'ENTER METADATA' in the submission process and then enter each author's data.]
14. Authors' biography (in the column of Bio Statement) is written in the form of narration, including author's full name, place and date of birth, educational qualification/information started from bachelor degree (S-1) until the latest educational degree, the affiliation in which the author is currently working, phone number, and email address.
15. All correspondences, information and decisions for the submitted manuscripts are conducted through email written in the manuscript and/or the emails used for the submission. The status of the manuscript can be checked in the OJS by logging into the journal.

Title

Quattrocento Sans, not exceeded 15 words, font size 14, bold, one space, capitalize each word, except for Latin name, effective tittle, convey the main topics, highlight the importance aspect of the research.

Authors Data

Full name, without title, name of affiliation (University, Country), email address. The corresponding author should be marked with an asterisk (*) after the name. The research team with different affiliation should be written:

Abstract

The Indonesian language abstract contains 150-250 words consisting of 1 paragraph, contains the objectives, methods and research results. (Quattrocento Sans 10 pt, justified).

Keywords

Must be written in lowercase except for abbreviations, each separated by a comma, a maximum of 10 words sorted alphabetically. (Quattrocento Sans 10 pt).

Introduction

The introductory writing format does not contain a specific reference review sub-section. An Introduction should contain the background of the problem, including relevant previous research results and the formulation of the problem. The formulation of the problem is written in a narrative format, not with a list of problem formulations, and uses news, not interrogative sentences.

The introductory section must show a strong rationalization between the problem and the study of primary references, books, and journals to provide information on the novelty of the manuscript. The number of primary references is the most recent reference (within the last ten years) required from journals, which accounts for approximately 80% of all references used.

Methods

The research method contains an explanation of how this research is carried out, including (1) the type of research; (2) research design; (3) population and sample (research objectives); (4) data collection instruments (validity and reliability); and (5) data analysis techniques. For qualitative research such as classroom action research, ethnography, phenomenology, case studies, or anything else, it is necessary to add the presence of researchers, research subjects, and informants who participate, along with ways to dig up research data, the location and duration of the research, and a description of checking the validity of research results.

Avoid organizing writing into "sub-headings" in this section. Instead, use a narrative format.

Results and Discussion

The key research findings are presented narratively in the results and discussion sections. Researchers need to interpret research data so that it becomes information that readers can easily understand. The narrative in this section must include all variables in the research. Data processing can be presented as tables or figures to make it more interesting and understandable.

If the article narrative inserts data in table form, the table title is above the table with alignment centered (no need to Bold ), the table format only consists of horizontal lines with one single space, column headings are in bold, and data in cells can be in font size nine if too dense. In the narration, table references must be indicated (for example, see Table 1).

The data in the table needs to be interpreted and discussed by comparing the research results with the theoretical basis and other relevant articles. The result consists of visual aids such as images, charts, diagrams, and graphics that help to illustrate the data. The presentation also follows the existing regulations: The title or image name is placed below the image, from the left, and spaced one space from the image. If there is more than one line, the spaces between them are single-spaced.

Writing references in the body of the article and the bibliography is based on the rules issued by the American Psychological Association's (APA) Sixth Edition, which was published in 2010 (American Psychological Association, 2010).

BIOTEK refers to credible sources. Before being published, articles are written by experts in their fields and go through a review or editing process. Following are some examples of references in the body of an article:

The first example is making references to sources in the text. Writing can be like this (Madya, 2011), or if there are two authors, it is written like this (Tabachnick & Fidell, 2007). If there are four or more authors, only write the first author like this (Syamsul et al., 2020).

The second example is that it can also be written with the name outside the brackets, such as Madya (2011), adjusted to the statement being written.

Written on the back of the conclusion case by adhering to the style of this journal's envelope, as stated in the Guidelines for this journal (which ratified APA VI Edition ).

Written in single space (inter bibliography is spaced 1 space ) . Some examples of how to write references in the bibliography are as follows.
