Perkembangan Pemahaman Lintas Budaya Awardees IISMA 2023 di Universiti Sains Malaysia
Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengembangan kompetensi pemahaman lintas budaya (cross-cultural understanding/CCU) Awardees IISMA 2023 di Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan sumber data primer yang diperoleh melalui focus group discussion dan data sekunder melalui penelitian berbasis internet untuk sumber-sumber relevan. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa kompetensi CCU awardees berkembang signifikan sejak menjalani program secara langsung di universitas tujuan. Mereka mampu mengatasi gegar budaya, menghilangkan sikap etnosentris, membangun relasi positif dengan masyarakat lokal maupun internasional, turut serta merayakan keberagaman. Sikap-sikap tersebut berkontribusi terhadap capaian tujuan profesional awardees, seperti lulus pada seluruh mata kuliah dan memperkenalkan budaya Indonesia di kancah internasional. Implikasi dalam penelitian ini adalah IISMA dan USM telah berperan sebagai fasilitator untuk pengembangan keterampilan CCU. Namun, taraf keahlian CCU tetap bergantung pada efektivitas masing-masing awardees dalam memanfaatkan pengalaman tersebut. Pihak IISMA diharapkan dapat memberikan pengawasan lebih terkait pengembangan CCU yang merupakan tujuan strategis program.
