Jurnal Adabiyah was first published in 1997 by Yayasan Pendidikan Fatiya in collaboration with the Faculty of Adab of Alauddin State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Ujung Pandang, now, UIN Makassar. In 2002, Jurnal Adabiyah was officially registered at LIPI with ISSN printed version: 1412-6141. Since then, Jurnal Adabiyah has actively published articles in various disciplines within the scope of humanities and Islamic Studies. In 2016, along with the introduction of the online journal registration process, Jurnal Adabiyah began publishing articles thematically, namely in June on humanities issues, and December on issues of Islamic Studies.

Since 2022, Jurnal Adabiyah has focused on a single theme, namely Islamic Humanities. This is one of the efforts to improve the quality of the journal and make a more significant contribution to the development of Islamic studies.
