THE TEACHER’S COMPETENCE IN THE APPLICATION OF STRENGTHENING THE CHARACTER EDUCATION OF LEARNERS IN THE 2013 CURRICULUM
Abstract
This research aims to describe the teacher’s competence in the application of strengthening the character education of learners in the 2013 curriculum at Public Elementary School 043 Kebundalam in Wonomulyo District, Polman. It was descriptive qualitative research with pedagogical, sociological, and psychological approaches. Data collection used observation, interview and documentation methods. Data processing and analysis techniques were data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The validity of the data used triangulation techniques. The results showed the competence of teachers in Public Elementary School 043 Kebundalam, there were teachers with the ability to develop teaching materials that were still lacking but had an educational learning application strategy that shows teachers had personality competencies because they were able to be good examples for learners. The character formed in learners was religious, disciplined, and social care but the character of discipline that still needs to be reviewed and re-strengthened. Factors inhibiting teachers in implementing the 2013 curriculum were the teacher readiness, support from schools and government. The suggestion was the Principal should maintain the competence of the teacher and improve the competence that is still not maximal. Teachers do more coaching on the character value of the discipline of learners. Parents of each learner foster and familiarize learners to always be kind.
